AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Texas Fire Protection Commission for terms to expire Feb. 1 2013. The commission enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance to fire service personnel.
Art Pertile of Katy is an associate attorney at Olson & Olson L.L.P. He is director of the State Bar of Texas Government Law Section Texas state chair of the International Municipal Lawyers Association past president of the Texas City Attorney’s Association and a member of the American Bar Association.
He is also a member of the Waco Tigers Board of Directors. Pertile received a bachelor’s degree from McMurry University and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He is being reappointed to the commission.
Micheal L. Melton of Gilmer is the City of Gilmer fire chief and chief of the Gilmer Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association and State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association. He is also past president of the Northeast Texas Fire Chiefs Association and the Northeast Texas District of the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association. Melton replaces David Abernathy of Pittsburg.
Rhea Cooper of Lubbock is the City of Lubbock fire chief. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Texas Fire Chief’s Association and Texas Association of Fire Educators. He is also a past member of the Lubbock Area American Red Cross Board of Directors. Cooper received a bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. He replaces Juan Adame of Austin.
