Gov. Perry Awards $62500 to Deep East Texas Councils of Government

width=65AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today awarded more than $62500 to the Deep East Texas Council of Governments to purchase three patrol vehicles for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.  The grant is awarded under the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program and is distributed by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division (CJD).

Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants provide support to state and local governments for a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.

Each year CJD contributes to public safety and the reduction of crime in Texas through the deliberate deployment of strategy direction and funding.  CJD administers more that $113 million in both state and federal funds to support criminal justice juvenile justice and victim restoration efforts.
