AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry directed that all U.S. and Texas flags be flown at half-staff tomorrow at the State Capitol Building Capitol Complex and upon all state and public buildings grounds and facilities throughout the state pursuant to a declaration by President George W. Bush in commemoration of Patriot Day.
“On the seventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks I ask all Texans to pause and remember those whose lives were lost and whose families were affected by this senseless act of terrorism” Gov. Perry said. “As a nation at war we must also not forget the sacrifice given by those who protect our country and defend freedom from the forces of oppression every day.”
This directive applies to all U.S. and Texas flags under the control of the state. Flags will be lowered to half-staff on the state Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings grounds and facilities beginning at sunrise tomorrow September 11 until sunset that day.
Individuals businesses municipalities counties and other political subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
