Gov. Perry Honors Fall 2008 UIL State Champions

width=63AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry today honored the fall 2008 University Interscholastic League (UIL) state champions in athletics and music. These outstanding Texans are proof that our schools are still places where the young people of our state can succeed when they focus on a set of goals and do the hard work that sets winners apart" Gov. Perry said. They are the latest in a long line of champions in our state winners who have persevered through every challenge and ended up with medals around their necks. I am confident that many of these young leaders gathered here today will be recognized again in the future as standouts in athletics high achievers in academics and leaders in their communities." Approximately 100 students coaches and superintendents from 12 schools traveled to the State Capitol to celebrate both individual and team accomplishments. Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott UIL Executive Director Charles Breithaupt and Athletics Director Cliff Odenwald were also part of the celebration. The UIL is proud to have such outstanding student participants compete in UIL activities across the state of Texas" Breithaupt said. By honoring these participants on State Champion Day for the second year in a row Governor Perry continues his commitment to our students." The UIL is a voluntary organization created by the University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to various educational extracurricular academic athletic and music programs.
