Also Appoints Nelson to Board
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry named Oliver Bell of Austin presiding officer of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice for a term to expire Feb. 1 2009. He also appointed J. David Nelson of Lubbock to the board which oversees the operations of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Bell is the owner and CEO of Oliver J. Bell & Associates. He is a board member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce and a member of the U.S. Army Historical Foundation Society for Human Resources and Gamma Gamma Boulé. He is also past president of the West Point Association of Central Texas and a former member of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business Research Advisory Group. Bell served as an officer in the U.S. Army and is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Nelson is a partner with Nelson and Nelson Attorneys. He is former chairman of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and served two terms on the Lubbock City Council. He is a Texas Bar Foundation fellow and a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and State Bar of Texas.
Nelson is also a member and past officer of the Lubbock County Bar Association and a trained mediator. He is a past recipient of the United Way 2007 Lubbock Campaign Volunteer of the Year award and the Lubbock Outstanding Young Lawyer award. Nelson received a bachelor’s and law degree from Texas Tech University. He replaces Christina Crane of Dallas for a term to expire Feb.1 2013.
