Camp Mabry Austin Texas (27 Feb 2009) Governor Rick Perry has named Maj. Gen. Jose Mayorga as the Adjutant General of the Texas Military for a term to expire Feb 1 2011.
General Mayorga assumed duties as commander of the 36th Infantry Division on 13 August 2007 where he commanded and controlled the divisions headquarters and seven major subordinate commands.
General Mayorga attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville Texas under an ROTC Scholarship where he was inducted in to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society recognized as a Distinguished Military Student and completed the Airborne Course at Ft. Benning Georgia in 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; a Hardin-Simmons University Master of Business Administration in Finance and Management and a U.S. Army War College Master of Strategic Studies.
After a series of distinguished assignments in Active Duty and the Ready Reserve General Mayorga returned to the Texas Army National Guard on February 1 2001 where he took command of the 49th Engineer Brigade 49th Armored Division and command of the 71st Information Operations Group on April 2 2004.
General Mayorga was promoted to Brigadier General on June 1 2005 and served as the Assistant Adjutant General Homeland Defense for the Texas Military Forces followed by his current position and promotion to Major General.
