Also Names Heldenfels Vice Chair
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry has named A. W. “Whit” Riter III of Tyler chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor. He also named Fred W. Heldenfels IV of Austin vice chair of the board. The board sets policies and coordinates efforts to improve Texas higher education.
Riter is president of Riter Management Company L.C. and the A.W. Riter Jr. Family Foundation. He is chairman of the THECB Strategic Planning and a member of the Agency Operations committees. He is also a member of the Select Commission on Higher Education and Global Competitiveness and past member of the Task Force on Higher Education Incentive Funding.
He is an executive committee member of the University of Texas (UT) at Tyler and UT Health Center at Tyler development boards president of the Tyler Health Facilities Development Corporation Board and chairman of Encouragement FM. He is also a member of the UT Tyler Foundation Board of Directors College for all Texans Foundation and East Texas Communities Foundation Investment Committee. Riter received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University and a master’s of business administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He replaces Robert W. Shepard of Harlingen as chair.
Heldenfels is president and CEO of Heldenfels Enterprises Inc. He is a member of the THECB Strategic Planning Committee and vice chair of the Agency Operations Committee. He is also a member of the Select Commission on Higher Education and Global Competitiveness and San Marcos Economic Development Board.
Heldenfels is also past chairman of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse of Central Texas the Twelfth Man Foundation TAMU-CC Foundation Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and Texas Good Road and Transportation Association. He is also a Texas Lyceum Association alumnus and past board member of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Heldenfels received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. He replaces Whit Riter as vice chair.
