HELOTES – On Friday Governor Perry signed the budget bill which includes $1125000 in matching funds to establish the Frank L. Madla Memorial Park in Helotes.

Due to the efforts and support of our local representatives including Rep. David Leibowitz Rep. Frank Corte Sen. Leticia Van de Putte and Sen. Carlos Uresti Helotes is on its way to have its first city park.
The Helotes Park Foundation has secured private matching contributions in excess of $118000 necessary to pay for the 33 acre Scenic Loop land. Funds for the park also include a donation of $225000 from Pulte Homes Inc. Donations for the remaining matching funds will be used for improvements and maintenance of park facilities.

Further negotiations are necessary for the contract on this land. Former Helotes Mayor and current Helotes Park Foundation Director Jon Allan said “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Helotes to have such an exquisite park. Helotes Creek runs through it and there’s lots of hilly terrain and fields for hiking and recreation. I’m excited that through the efforts of a lot of people we can finally make this happen.”

The Helotes Park Foundation is a non-profit corporation established by the City of Helotes to secure funding for parks and improvements.
