Fort Worth native Tom Schieffer and younger brother of CBS newsman Bob Schieffer will be speaking in Austin on Monday August 10th at the Austin Economic Club. The Texas businessman and political figure has begun his campaign for the Texas Governor Democratic nomination and with his focus now on his candidacy Schieffer is to address those in Austin on Texas in the 21st Century. Schieffer will speak on Texas current economic situation and the direction of Texas economic policies which will include the future of public education a balance in Texas energy regulation health care and Texas need for a cleaner and safe environment.The Austin Economic Club a non-profit civic group invites all Texans to discover more on the economic future of Texas during our current economic conditions and learn what you need to know to make an educated decision for our next Texas governor. The event is part of the clubs 2009 Distinguished Lecture Series and is not a fundraiser.Schieffer has experience in both Texas and U.S. business and politics ranging from sponsoring legislation creating the first presidential primary in Texas to negotiations around the Six Party Talks with Japan to partnering with George W. Bush in investment of the Texas Rangers and building of the Ballpark in Arlington. Serving three terms in the Texas House of Representatives Schieffer was also Tarrant County coordinator for two of Democratic Governor Mark Whites campaigns was the Finance Chairman for Democratic Congressman Pete Geren and is a former trustee of Tarrant County College. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts having majored in government and minored in history. Schieffer will be speaking to the Austin Economic Club during its August 10th breakfast meeting from 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. at the Austin Club in downtown Dallas.
