AUSTIN — Halliburton has partnered with Del Mar College in Corpus Christi to provide job training using a $372442 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The grant will be used to train workers for 528 new or upgraded jobs including managers operator assistants service operators and supervisors. Upon completion of training workers will receive an average hourly wage of $17.17.
“I’m extremely impressed with the efforts put forth by Del Mar College and Halliburton to help workers get specialized training” said state Rep. Solomon Ortiz Jr. “The creation of 448 new jobs and the training for 80 incumbent workers in jobs paying competitive wages have a positive impact on the workforce community.”
“TWC makes these grants available each year helping hundreds of Texas employers and workers succeed” said TWC Chairman Tom Pauken. “We take pride in the fact that we can continue to provide businesses a ready and skilled workforce.”
In Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 Skills Development Fund grants created or upgraded 20831 jobs which paid an average hourly wage of $19.04. These grants assisted 281 Texas employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature has appropriated $50 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2008-09 biennium.
