Harris County Dems Invite Nominee to Take A Hike!

And Romney Gets It Right With Ryan Pick width=73By Gary Polland Texas Insider Report: HOUSTON Texas With the pick of Paul Ryan to be his running mate Mitt Romney has done the country a large favor. We now have an opportunity to get width=119away from the Obama attack campaign based on wealth personality likeability and instead can focus on the future and the challenges facing our economy unsustainable entitlements runaway federal spending and a broken tax code which hinders economic growth and the American dream for the coming generations. What we need this year is an honest debate of the road where we are going and how to get us back on track. Is it larger and more intrusive government or allowing the private sector with minimal interference to prosper? Is it more individual and corporate welfare where the government picks winners and losers? The choice is stark. We can join California on the road to ruin or we can take the best practices from our successful states and carry them over to Washington. HISD Wants $1900000000 (1.9 Billion) in New BondsĀ a Mighty Big Bite from Taxpayers One of the largest bond issues for a school district in Texas history is now coming to Houston with a corresponding tax increase if the voters make the mistake of giving HISD a blank check which they do not deserve. Even the liberal Houston Chronicle has misgivings about it but in gutless fashion swallows them and says it will support the bonds. Some of the questions being asked are these:
  1. The process seems rushed starting in March 2012 and not transparent HISD needs work on ethics and conflicts of interest rules which compared to other large state districts is loosey-goosey.
  2. width=133HISD seems to shortchange high growth/high need areas the district is hurrying because it believes Obama will bring out a lot of pro-bond voters in November.
  3. We are in a recovering economy and the big number is a lot to ask especially since we still have 40 of the last bond issue to spend.
  4. The last bond spending has had problems like shoddy workmanship and some of the new proposed work will require destroying recent work just completed (what a waste and shows poor planning).
  5. And HISD still has a high dropout rate and an incredible 60 of students entering Houston Community College need remedial work many of them are graduates of HISD!
Congratulations to Greg Meyers the only school board member with enough common sense to agree HISD should earn the voters trust first before asking for the whole enchilada. Voters should take a look at this stinker and vote NO so HISD can have a reality check and do their planning in stages. Remember it is always good to learn to walk before one runs. Harris County Democrats Invite Their DA Nominee To Take A Hike! This hasnt made the local media yet but former Democratic Chair Gerald Birnberg has made a complaint designed to remove Democratic accidental District Attorney candidate Lloyd Oliver from the ballot. This is an interesting development. TCR wonders:
  1. Do the Ds intend to remove and replace with a handpicked star who they think could take advantage of the nasty GOP primary battle between incumbent Pat Lykos and successful primary challenger Mike Anderson?
  2. Do the Democrats think that they can convince enough swing and Lykos loyalists to vote their way and win a tight battle?
Maybe its time for the Anderson group to smoke the peace pipe with District Attorney Lykos and her width=112supporters. Gary Polland a long-time conservative and Republican spokesman fund-raiser and leader who completed three terms as the Harris County Republican Chairman is publisher of the Texas Conservative Review. Polland was described as the most successful county Chairman in America by Human Events at the time.
