Hegar Reacts to Cancellation of August LCRA Board Meeting

width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas LCRA just announced the cancellation of the August special-called board meeting to consider the White Stallion Water Contract.  Senator Hegar in reacting to the news applauded the LCRA Board for the manner in which they are approaching their responsibility to the people of the Colorado Basin.  The LCRA Board should delay any decision until they have had the time to sufficiently deliberate and consider every aspect of the contract and ensure that the contract will protect and benefit the Colorado Basin.  Senator Hegar has been monitoring the White Stallion project which will be located in Matagorda County in his Senate District since talk of the project first began.  In a June 10 2011 letter to the LCRA Board of Directors Hegar asked the board to delay the decision on the pending White Stallion water contract in order to take all time necessary to gain a full understanding of the impacts the contract could have on the entire basin.  The LCRA Board responded by delaying consideration of the contract until the August 10 2011 special-called board meeting.  Now that August special-called board meeting has been cancelled indefinitely.  LCRAs press statement said the cancellation of the meeting came after the company proposing the plant substantially changed the terms of the contract.  The magnitude of this contract is reason enough for LCRA to proceed cautiously but combined with the current drought conditions in Texas and the competing demands for water LCRAs actions today validate the request to delay that I made earlier this year  Senator Hegar stated.
