Volunteers combed candidate web sites Facebook pages and the Texas Ethics Commission and Federal Election Commission web sites. In some cases information may have appeared at those sites after the research window closed. In grading each candidate for the Voters Guide panelists considered (in order of importance):
  • Voting record (if any)
  • Donations to and from the candidate
  • Endorsements of and by the candidate
  • Statements from the candidates web site
  • Answers to Heritage Alliances survey
Although survey answers are least important no candidate could receive an A grade without answering the survey. Grades for state and county candidates are available to Heritage Alliance members. Membership is free. Federal election laws restrict the availability of grades for federal candidates (U.S. Congress) to Heritage Alliance members who have also contributed at least $1 in the past year.
