Hilderbran Files for Re-election

harvey-hilderbrandKerrville TX State Representative Harvey Hilderbran has filed for reelection to Texas House District 53 seeking his twelfth term in the Texas House of Representatives. I have had the great honor to serve the citizens of my district and with the continued support of my constituents it would be a blessing to continue that service" Hilderbran said. In the 2009 legislative session Hilderbran led the effort to protect private property rights by drafting and passing legislation to give Texas residents some of the strongest private property protections in the nation. In November voters passed his language as an amendment to the Texas Constitution ensuring that state and local governments can only take private property for public use and not for private purposes. Additionally Hilderbran secured funding to establish a permanent mental health facility in Kerrville for non-criminal patients and passed legislation that encourages the development of homes for low-income families by extending the tax exemption for groups that build such homes. In 2007 Hilderbran protected the Texas park system by securing approximately $91 million in additional funding each year for state and local parks. In 1997 he was instrumental in passing the states most significant legislation protecting residents of Texas nursing homes and in 1995 he wrote and passed the states landmark welfare reform legislation. We have won hard-fought victories over the last two decades and I will continue to fight for rural Texas by protecting our water rights strengthening our schools ensuring fair and affordable health care and fighting illegal immigration" Hilderbran said. In 2008 the Texas Deer Association awarded him the Frank Madla Award" for Representative of the Year. Hilderbran was also named Legislator of the Year" in 2007 by the Texas Municipal League and was the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Legislator Award by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society. He is the 2004 recipient of the Vietnam Veterans of America Texas State Councils Legislator of the Year Award and the 2001 recipient of the Legislator of the Year award by the Texas Young Republicans. In 2003 he created the Hilderbran Scholars Fund which awards scholarships to deserving students throughout District 53. Rep. Harvey Hilderbran was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1988 and he currently serves on the Redistricting State Affairs and Ways & Means committees.
