Ways & Means Chairman says hes been encouraged for Statewide Run
Texas Insider Report: KERRVILLE Texas Ive worked closely with Susan for many years and
deeply appreciate her service to Texas. The Office of Comptroller is one of the most important in our state and
she has made a
significant contribution to help grow the Texas economy" said House Ways & Means Committee
Chairman Harvey Hilderbran following Comptroller Susan Combs Thursday announcement that she will not seek re-election.
Personally shes been a colleague and a stalwart Republican. I know her love for Texas is truly special and wish her the very best in the future."
Hilderbran a Republican from Kerrville has served for the past two Legislative Sessions as chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee during which time he oversaw the passage of $1.4 billion in tax relief and led the charge to cut wasteful spending while making the tax system more fair and transparent.
As chairman of the committee Hilderbran oversaw the Comptrollers Office and also sat on
the Legislative Audit Committee as well as
the Legislative Budget Board which prepares the draft appropriations

bill and budget estimate for each state agency.
The office of Comptroller is one of the most important in our state. Many Texans have asked me to consider seeking this office should it become open and I have prayerfully done that. We are putting the pieces in place for a statewide run in 2014 and I will have a formal political announcement very soon. For now I am focused on the special session" Hilderbran said.
During the 2013 Texas Legislative Session Hilderbran authored and oversaw the passage of House Bill 500 which delivered $710 million in tax relief to 850000 Texas businesses by permanently exempting those that make less than $1 million from paying the Margins Tax.
Hilderbrans HB 500 also guaranteed a $1 million deduction to all other businesses and reduced the tax rate by a total of 5 via consecutive 2.5 cuts during each of the next two years. The guaranteed $1 million exemption ensures that

the Margins Tax is applied more fairly to all businesses.
Hilderbran is a 1983 graduate of Texas Tech University and was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1988. He lives with his wife Tracy and their two daughters in Kerrville. In the private sector Hilderbran has extensive experience in real estate ranching advertising business management and marketing.
