$353400 price for couples wanting to sit at the head table with Clinton
WASHINGTON D.C. It is obscene that Secretary
Clinton keeps going to big-money people to fund her campaign" said self-avowed Socialist-Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders earlier this week
adding that Clinton has now raised well over $15 million from Wall Street for her super PAC and millions more from the fossil fuel industry and from the drug companies."
The former secretary of state is scheduled to hold a campaign event next month in San Francisco. Clinton is asking for $353400 for two seats at a table with herself actor George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney.
The vast majority of Sanders money has come from donors giving under $200.
At the Clooney residence co-hosts include Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg top Democratic fundraisers and major supporters of Barack Obama in 2008. Other co-hosts include Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw longtime Clinton donors Haim and Cheryl Saban and other high rollers to be announced at a later date.
Clintons campaign is also running a contest to allow at least one supporter to attend the star-studded dinner for free.
The event marks Clintons third Victory Fund event:
- A fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall earlier this month featuring Katy Perry & Elton John raised big dollars for the Victory Fund.
- Last December Sting hosted an event for the Clintons where ticket prices ranged from $33400 for one person to $100000 for a couple at the event chair" level. The event raised $8 million in one night.
Republicans quickly seized on the $353400 price for couples wanting to sit at the head table with Clinton at the event at the Clooneys home.
The Bay Area fundraiser hosted at the home of venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar is one of two events starring the Clooneys. On April 16 Clinton and the Clooneys will reunite at the Clooney Los Angeles mansion where tickets cost $33400 per person to dine at the table with one of Hollywoods most glamorous couples.
Both events raise money for
the Hillary Victory Fund. While the maximum donation to a presidential campaign is $2700 for the primary elections (plus another $2700 for the general) the Hillary Victory Fund can accept much larger contributions because it is a so-called joint fundraising committee that is comprised of multiple committees.
In addition to
Hillary for America which is Clintons main campaign committee
the Hillary Victory Fund also includes the Democratic National Committee and 32 state party committees.
The maximum donation to the DNC is $33400 a year while the state parties each can accept donations of $10000 a year into their federal accounts.
While Clinton has courted big donors in the Democratic Party Sanders has done particularly well with small donors. Almost all of the $75 million his campaign raised last year for example came from small donors.
Sen. Bernie Sanders presidential campaign raised $33.6 million in the last three months of 2015 and another $20 million in January alone. The Sanders campaign stated 1.3 million people have made 3.25 million donations to Sanders run a record number of donors at this stage in a presidential campaign.
The numbers weve seen since Jan. 1 put our campaign on pace to beat Secretary Clintons goal of $50 million in the first quarter of 2016" Jeff Weaver Sanders campaign manager said recently in a statement.
Working Americans chipping in a few dollars each month are not only challenging but beating the greatest fundraising machine ever assembled."
The vast majority of Sanders money has come from donors giving under $200. This contrasts with Hillary Clintons campaign which has raised the majority of its funds from donors giving maximum contributions of $2700.
Clintons campaign has also raised substantial sums from small donors but Sanders ability to remain competitive with Clintons fundraising by relying solely on small contributions is unprecedented.
Overall Sanders raised $75 million in 2015 compared to approximately $114 million for Clinton
