Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Rep. Tom Craddick (R-Midland) was notified by the House Committee on Transportation that House Bill 80 the Alex Brown Memorial Act a bill relating to a statewide ban on texting while driving will be heard in the committee meeting Thursday March 5 2015 at 8:00 a.m. in Capitol Extension Room E2.012.
Rep. Craddick and the bills joint authors Rep. Patricia Harless Rep. Eddie Lucio and Rep. Byron Cook will address the committee on the importance of this legislation. Supporters of House Bill 80 will join family members of individuals who lost their lives to a texting while driving crash at the hearing to testify in favor of House Bill 80.
The bill is named in honor of Alex Brown. Alex lost her life in a texting while driving crash as she drove to school during her senior year in high school. The family has since formed the Remembering Alex Brown (RAB) foundation to raise awareness and support a Texas law. Jeanne Brown will be at the meeting to testify in favor of House Bill 80.
Dallas resident Krista Tankersley will share with the committee her story about the loss of her brother Jeff a Amarillo lawyer and Ironman competitor who was violently struck down while cycling last summer by a distracted driver.
Jeanne Krista and other family members of individuals who lost their lives to a texting while driving accident will be available to speak to the press after the hearing.
