House Judiciary Votes to Impeach Texas Federal Judge

 width=80The House Judiciary Committee Wednesday voted 29-0 to approve four articles of impeachment against a Texas federal judge who is set to begin a 33-month prison sentence next week for obstruction of justice. The resolution lays out four charges against U.S. District Judge Samuel B. Kent who pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice in February after admitting that he gave false testimony to federal investigators looking into the sexual misconduct complaints made by two female court employees. In 2007 Cathy McBroom Kents case manager filed a complaint alleging that Kent repeatedly initiated non-consensual sexual contact ranging from unwanted hugs to groping and sexual assault. Donna Wilkerson his secretary later joined the complaint. Both women testified June 3 before a Judiciary impeachment task force. width=116Two of the articles of impeachment outline Kents inappropriate sexual contact with McBroom and Wilkerson. The third and fourth focus on Kents false statements and his guilty plea for obstruction of justice. Federal authorities initially charged Kent with six counts of aggravated sexual abuse abusive sexual contact and obstruction of justice.
