Houston Mayors Race Poll: We Finally Have One

While contest is non-partisan Turner Garcia & Bell all identify as Ds HoustonSkylineSMALLTexas Insider Report: HOUSTON Texas Well we finally have a poll of Houstons Novembers open-seat mayoral contest courtesy of the University of Houston & Rice University. And it does seem to confirm the conventional wisdom that Sylvester Turner & Adrian Garcia are the frontrunners.   The University of Houston & Rice University Poll includes two separate 500-person samples one of registered voters and one of likely voters. The results of the likely voter sample are:
    • sylvester-turnerTurner State Rep. Sylvester (at right) : 16
    • Garcia Ex-Harris County Sheriff Adrian : 12
    • Bell Ex-Cong. Chris : 8
    • King Former Kemah Mayor Bill : 3
    • Hall Ex-City Attorney & 2013 candidate Ben : 3
    • Costello Councilor Stephen : 2
    • McVey Businessman Marty : 0
The poll of Registered Voters is slightly different.
  • Garcia edges Turner 15-13
  • with Bell down to 4.
If no one takes a majority of the vote the top two contenders will advance to a December runoff. While the contest is non-partisan Turner Garcia and Bell all identify as Democrats. One major caveat is that this survey was conducted over the space of a month which is an incredibly long time for a poll to stay in the field. However
