Hutchison: $60 Million More in Federal Funds for Texas Division of Emergency Management

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) Texas senior Senator today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Texas $60 million in federal grants for the Division of Emergency Management (DEM) response efforts in Hurricane Ike. To date Texas has received over $1.6 billion in federal funding to aid in Hurricane Ike recovery efforts.  Ill continue to fight for more federal assistance for Texas families and businesses affected by Hurricane Ike" said Sen. Hutchison.           According to the Department of Homeland Security the grants will go toward emergency management costs incurred by the Texas DEM including set up for approximately 600 shelters throughout the state to shelter evacuees erecting staging areas for ambulances National Guard equipment buses food water ice and generators. The funds will also compensate Texas for Task Force 1 Teams special needs care teams and city public works teams that were deployed to disaster-impacted communities.
