Hutchison Announces Bid for Governor

kay-bailey-hutchikson3La Marque TX - LA MARQUE Texas (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says GOP Gov. Rick Perry is trying to stay too long in office and she is proposing term limits for Texas governor. According to Senator Hutchison under Perrys watch Texas property taxes remain high while property rights are at risk. The state debt has doubled. Tuition and drop-out rates are up. And there are too many uninsured children. Its a hot button list that is expected to be the core of her campaign. We can do better and in my administration we will" Hutchison said. We will be specific and direct; we will lay out a clear conservative vision for the future on Texas. As Governor I will focus on 5 areas. Fiscal policy education transportation health care and government reform."    Hutchison in announcing for governor Monday singled out the Texas Department of Public Transportation calling it the most arrogant unaccountable state agency in the history of Texas. Hutchison kicked off her bid in La Marque where she grew up as part of a 19-city campaign announcement tour through Friday. La Marque is about 40 miles southeast of Houston. The states senior U.S. senator is running against Perry in the March 2010 Republican primary in her bid for the four-year term. Perry the longest serving governor in Texas history has been in office since 2000. Hutchison suggests a two-term limit totaling eight years. The senator says she plans to resign her seat later this fall in order to concentrate on the March primary. Governor Rick Perry is home after spending the last several days in Israel on an economic development trip.
