WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and John Cornyn (R-TX) today announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded seven federal grants to the State of Texas in association with Hurricane Ike debris removal and recovery efforts.
“This funding from the FEMA is one more step on our path to recovery” said Sen. Hutchison. “Under the recent six month extension of 100 federal reimbursement for debris removal many Texas cities and counties will be able to continue their important rebuilding efforts. I will continue to work with local officials to help make sure that they have the resources they need.”
“I’m pleased to announce this important funding for Texans who were impacted by Hurricane Ike” said Sen. Cornyn. “Unfortunately many families are still displaced and communities are in need of assistance as they rebuild. Today’s announcement while still only a fraction of what Texas requires will be welcome news to those who are still in the process of recovering from this devastating storm. I will continue to do everything I can to ensure impacted counties receive the resources and tools they need to make a complete recovery.”
Here is how the funding will be allocated:
• UT Medical Branch (UTMB) $38925551.00 Emergency Protective Services
• City of Baytown $7838125.00 Debris Removal
• San Jacinto County $3414744.31 Debris Removal
• Liberty County $2849199.36 Debris Removal
• Harris County $1836153.00 Debris Removal
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the State. It is the State’s responsibility to ensure that eligible sub-grantees receive these awards. Following the State’s review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation they will provide funds to the sub-grantees on a reimbursement basis.
