September 22 2010
The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington D.C. 20500
Dear President Obama:
As you may know from September 6th through September 10 2010 Texas felt the devastating impact of Tropical Storm Hermine. Tragically this storm claimed the lives of eight Texans and disrupted communities throughout our state. It is crucial for victims of Hermine to receive federal assistance which may be enabled through a Presidential disaster declaration.
Earlier this week the State of Texas sent a letter to you requesting you to issue a Presidential disaster declaration for 13 Texas counties that have been affected by extensive flood damage from Tropical Storm Hermine. We write you today to voice our support for the States request that a Presidential disaster declaration be made for: Bell Blanco Cameron Coryell Denton Hill Jim Wells Johnson Medina Tarrant Travis Willacy and Williamson counties.
As Texans begin the rebuilding process from the destruction that Hermine has left a Presidential disaster declaration will provide victims with individual assistance public assistance and hazard mitigation assistance. We support the Presidential disaster declaration request and we appreciate your timely consideration to this urgent matter.
Sincerely
KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON
U.S. Senator
JOHN CORNYN
U.S. Senator
