WASHINGTON D.C. Today U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Senate Democratic leaderships decision to push cap and trade legislation through committee without EPA or CBO analysis:
Once again the Democrats have disregarded government transparency and overridden Senate rules to push through their Cap and Trade legislation. Afraid of what the American public might learn the Democratic leadership refused to allow the true costs of the bill to be determined.
The Senate Cap and Trade legislation will have a devastating impact on our economy killing jobs raising prices and squeezing middle-class families in Texas and across the country. American ingenuity and technological advancement not taxes and mandates that increase costs and burden American families and businesses are the best way to improve our environment."
In less than a year the Democratic leadership has pushed through over Republican objections a hastily-crafted stimulus bill that has proven ineffective and ripe with waste and fraud a record-breaking budget that dramatically increases the deficit and is now crafting a government takeover of our healthcare behind closed doors. The American people deserve better."
