WASHINGTON D.C. On Sunday as the U.S. Senate continued debate on the Democrats 2000-plus page debt-increasing healthcare bill U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) released the following statement on her vote today to reverse cuts of $135 billion in Medicare benefits that particularly hit rural communities and in support of a Republican amendment to establish tort reform
The Medicare cuts in the Democrats government-run health care bill will drastically hurt our rural hospitals ability to serve these Medicare patients. Republicans have attempted repeatedly to stop the massive Medicare cuts and the damage to senior citizens who are dependent on this care.
In Texas we have shown that tort reform can help bring doctors back to rural areas and increase the care patients can receive closer to home. The Democratic leadership has thwarted Republican attempts to enact commonsense tort reform into this bill and would instead prefer to protect lawyers salaries while capping those of healthcare providers."
