(WASHINGTON DC)---U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) issued the following statement about her vote against moving the Democratic health care bill forward:
The Democratic leadership continues to ram through their comprehensive health care reform bill literally in the middle of the night. We Republicans are standing firm to shine a light on the political maneuverings of the Democratic leaders and continue to raise Americans awareness of this awful bill.
Once again they are forcing the Senate to vote in the middle of the night on a bill that was written in secret behind closed doors. The Democrats have put in so many sweetheart deals to get their 60 votes deals that will punish most Americans.
This bill cuts Medicare raises premiums on working families raises taxes on small businesses and will compromise the high quality of care and access that Americans have come to expect from our health care system. Any legislation that is destined to change the quality of life of every American should be done thoughtfully and in the open. Sadly that is not the case with this bill."
