IMMIGRATION EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Dan Patrick Heads to Arizona for Immigration Reform Study

Plans to file package of illegal immigration bills during 2011 Session width=235Texas Insider Report: HOUSTON Texas  Arizona has taken a stand to protect their citizens & their economy from the impact of overwhelming illegal immigration in their state said Senator Dan Patrick Friday morning.  After spending time on the Texas border with our sheriffs I want to learn how our problems and our solutions compare with Arizona Patrick said.     Senator Patrick departed Houston Friday morning on a fact-finding trip to Arizona where will be meeting with legislators & border sheriffs to learn firsthand how they are coping with illegal immigration.  Patrick told Texas Insider he will also be meeting with legislators who authored the Arizona Law that has attracted national attention and a lawsuit from the federal government. Arizonas law makes it a state crime for illegal immigrants to be in the country and allows Arizona law enforcement officials to detain those suspected of being in the country illegally unless they can prove otherwise. Polls show more than 75 of Americans have heard about the state of Arizonas new immigration law and of these: It is the federal governments responsibility to protect our borders said Patrick. Since they have failed to do their job it is our responsibility as Texas legislators to do all we can to protect our citizens and our economy Patrick said. Senator Patrick told Texas Insider he plans to file a package of bills on the issue of illegal immigration. The polling results are based on a Gallup poll conducted in the days after Arizona Gov. Jan Brewers signing the bill into law. April 27-28 2010.
