Watch Mayor Art Martinez of Von Ormey and Nassua Bay City Councilman Brad Bailey as they join Insiders Jim Cardle to talk about Immigration Reform Border Security & Jobs in Texas.
This really isnt a partisan issue its an American issue. We need to come up with a solution that protects our economy that promotes law & order that allows us to see the good guys from the bad guys and the novel approach that we (in the Texas Republican Platform) brought was looking at this from a common-sense appraoch says Von Ormey Mayor Art Martinez an I-35 city just south of San Antonio. Passed during the State Republican Party Convention in order to address the issues of Border Security Immigration Reform & Jobs the The Texas Solution" is a guiding set of conservative principles that provide a practical approach to some of the most difficult policy issues of the 2012 Election say Bailey & Martinez. We want make sure that American workers are hired first so we laid out 7 or 8 points that outline the things we felt were important ... background checks making sure its a self-funded program making sure its not a drain on our heealth care system which it currently is Bailey said. So if you are part of the temporary worker program (laid out in the Texas Republican Platform) you have to prove that you can secure health insurance just like you have a card for car insurance because our County City & County hospitals can not be required to carry that burden any more. Theres got to be a process and a procedure thats gone through says Bailey. Border Security is our #1 issue but we also provided solutions. English as an Official Language is also something that we passed as well Baily said. As an elected official on the I-35 corridor we deal with the affects of immigration & illegal immigration on a daily basis. And its come to a point I think where our elected officials want asolution. said Von Ormeys Mayor Art Martinez. Part of the frustration is that the national partys efforts speak to the issue but very little is actually accomplished. What drives illegal immigration? What drives immigration? Its economics ... so we need an economic solution to solve what is the prime motivator of this problem. said Martinez. Thats where we think others have been lead astry. They try to take a different approach than economics. As conservatives we dont want to build big-government bureaucracies we dont want to spend alot of money so we sought a conservative solution that would appeal to peoples private personal & economic motivations to comply. Our solution protects American workers our solution protects American businesses and we think in the long-run is a smarter position said Martinez. We were able to pass a temporary worker outline of what we would like to see the federal government look at but only if a U.S. worker cannot fill that job. What really resonated is the idea that in Texas weve provided energy solutions in Texas weve provided solutions for our economy why cant we in Texas solve or provide solutions to the immigration problem. We think weve done that says Nassau Bay City Councilman Brad Bailey.
