84th Legislative Session Vetoes
This session only a handful of bills made it through the Legislative process to the Governors desk. And only a few of those bills have been signed by the Governor.
Out of the 4340 house bills that were filed and the 2136 senate bills that were filed 669 house bills and 448 senate bills have been signed by the Governor and only 42 bills were vetoed.
Overall the 84th Legislative Session was a successful session with many good pieces of policy that passed into law.
General Land Office Vessel Turn In Program
The City of Galveston is partnering with the General Land Office (GLO) and Texas Parks and Wildlife to remove their inoperable and derelict vessels thorough the Vessel Turn-In Program.
The GLO will sponsor the removal of all fuel oil and batteries and the city will provide for the removal of lead keels aluminum and all other recyclable materials.
The first phase of the program will involve residents east of 103rd Street. If you own a vessel under 26 feet long in need of disposal you can bring your boat in and the GLO will dispose of it.
This program is designed to assist owners with the legal removal of unwanted boats reducing instances of illegal dumping unsightly neighborhood blight and the harboring of unwanted pests to further the Citys beautification initiative.
Once the initial phase for the residents east of 103rd street the city will implement the second phase providing the same opportunity to the rest of the Island.
If you are interested in participating in this program please contact (409)797-3560 to leave your name and phone number and a representative will contact you with further information. A representative from the GLO will contact respondents to verify the vessel qualifies for the program which will then be followed up by a site visit to verify ownership and document the condition of the vessel. Once the verification process is complete the owners will be notified of when and where to bring the vessel for proper removal.
This hotline is open only for Galveston residents through August 1st.
