AUSTIN Last years hurricane season did not provide any tests to the 2009 reforms to Texas windstorm insurance laws. But with limited cash on hand a limit on funding to pay damages and a questionable bond market is Texas ready in case a big storm hits this year?
The Texas Public Policy Foundation will consider this topic at its next Policy Primer at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday June 16th. The primer will take place at the Foundations headquarters in Austin.
Wednesdays Policy Primer will examine whether last years legislative reforms are working if they have led to more private insurers writing windstorm policies along the coast whether the bond market can pay for losses and what level of storm damage can be handled without a special session of the Texas Legislature.
The panel will be moderated by Ryan Brannan economic freedom policy analyst at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Panelists will include:
- Kelly Hancock State Representative R-North Richland Hills
- Solomon Ortiz Jr. State Representative D-Corpus Christi
- Eli Lehrer Senior Fellow The Heartland Institute
- Jim Murphy Actuary Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
The event is open to the public and includes a complimentary lunch. Persons interested in attending may register on the TPPF website. The luncheon will be re-broadcasted at a later date on Time Warner Cables Texas Channel" (Time Warner

Cable digital tier channel 888).
