Donald Trump should not be
the only one to note that radical Islam is anti-woman anti-gay and anti-American. Thats Obamas job and hes not doing it. He seems even less up to it on this the 7th successful
terrorist attack on his watch than he was
when the other six occurred.
American voters are not children. They can handle the truth and indeed they demand and deserve it. They know that Islam has a major terrorism problem and
they want their leader to acknowledge it.
Stupid ugly misguided and pitifully inadequate responses follow jihadi murders as night follows day. But those that erupted in the wake of Sundays Islamist massacre of 49 people at a gay club in Orlando were even more contemptible than precedent has taught us to expect.
An ACLU lawyer quickly took to Twitter to blame the Christian Right and the Republican Party. That was the stupid and ugly bit.
The misguided and pitifully inadequate element was provided by
President Obama who tramped down his well-worn path to another disquisition on gun control.
Orlando should not be a moment for lashing out to find scapegoats who had nothing to do with what happened. It should not be a moment of self-loathing. Americans did not bring this upon themselves by including the 2nd 5th and 6th Amendments in their Constitution amendments that
Senate Democrats are now trying to eradicate with their latest sleazy and disingenuous proposal.
This is a moment when the federal government must finally start taking seriously an enemy that Obama has always underestimated and still steadfastly refuses to name.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Orlando massacre within hours of Omar Mateen launching his attack. There is no evidence so far that the terrorist state played a direct role but that hardly matters; the killer swore his allegiance to the caliphate and it claimed credit and celebrated. If anything it is far more frightening if no direct coordination is needed for such outrages to be perpetrated.
- Within their own territorial jurisdiction Islamic State agents massacre Muslims and non-Muslims alike rape and sell women and execute homosexuals horrifically by throwing them from the top of tall buildings. They teach children to hate and train them to be murderers. Their atrocities and war crimes are so heinous so depraved so obscene that they make al Qaeda look almost moderate.
- At the start of the Islamic State march across Syria and Iraq Obama called them the jayvee team of terrorism. He ignored intelligence warnings to the contrary which were available not only to him but in public testimony before Congress as well.
- His administration doctored military intelligence reports to make the situation seem less dire than it was and to make it seem like failing American efforts against the group were succeeding. He involved American air power in the fight but under such stringent rules of engagement that it has been largely ineffective in curbing the groups influence.
His attempt to train a force that could fight the Islamic State was a fiasco costing $580 million and yielding a grand total of 60 fighters 1 of the original goal. In their first battlefied test these fighters made peace with al Qaeda forces and handed over their equipment to the terrorists.
This leads us to the real problem: Obamas half-hearted and half-cocked efforts to stop the Islamic State have extended the groups life. This has played into jihadist propaganda suggesting that tomorrow belongs to them.
It has also entrenched them so sufficiently that even Obama now acknowledges that it will take years to defeat the Islamic State.
As long as it survives and maintains the legitimacy of statehood and caliphate it will inspire more San Bernardinos and even more Orlandos.
Americas leaders are failing their people by pretending that the problem lies not with the perpetrators but with the U.S. Constitution and American citizens personal freedom.
As the Washington Examiners Michael Graham noted on the day of the massacre Obamas failure even to mention either Islam or the Islamic State in his address to the nation was an embarrassment. It gives the impression that he is not being sincere about what he says.
- American voters are not children. They can handle the truth and indeed they demand and deserve it.
- They know that Islam has a major terrorism problem and they want their leader to acknowledge it.
- They can hear him say it without lashing out at Muslims in general. But they are especially too sophisticated to accept the idea that we are somehow responsible for what happened.
No Mr. President America is not at fault for trusting its citizenry with too much freedom. The perpetrator is at fault.
You are at fault for neglect. The FBI is at fault for dropping its investigation and surveillance of a known threat a clearly unstable person it interviewed several times and who talked frequently about killing.
Step up now and set an example. Take your share of blame. More importantly start taking the threat seriously so that soon there is no more blame to go around. You cannot keep saying the same thing any longer.
Some of your accolytes will stick with you all the way to your last departure from the White House aboard Marine One. They wont denounce your obfuscations on Islamist terrorism.
But not even they believe you any more Mr President. No one does.
