PLAINVIEW TXRepublican small businessman Jim Landtroop will announce his candidacy for State Representative House District 85 on Monday January 4th following his official filing for the office.
Our district is conservative" said Landtroop. And it is time we have a legislator who represents those values. West Texans are disappointed with what the Democrats are doing. Nearly three quarters of the residents in our district think that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are taking the nation in the wrong direction. I agree and that is why I am running for State Representative."
Landtroop ran for this position in 2006. In that political cycle Republicans lost the majority in the U.S. House the U.S. Senate as well as several seats in the Texas House. West Texas was not immune from the liberals perfect storm" and in a heartbreaker Landtroop was defeated by just 217 votes.
Landtroop has been active in the community and serves in a variety of capacities. He is a member of the National and Texas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors the Plainview Chamber of Commerce the Lions Club and the NRA. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the local United Way and American Cancer Society. As head coach Landtroop led the Plainview Christian Academys Boys Varsity Basketball team to the State Semi-finals this year. Jim is an elder and helped found Plainview Bible Church.
Landtroop has been a gubernatorial appointee to the Brazos River Authority Board where he helped craft water policy for the region. Landtroop also serves on U.S. Congressman Randy Neugebauers financial advisory committee and writes a conservative weekly column for local publication Easy Living entitled Taking Our Country Back."
Jim received a bachelors degree from Texas A&M University and attended Dallas Theological Seminary. Married to his wife Cathy for 16 years the two have three children Braden-14 Kenneth-12 and Lauren Grace-9.
House District 85 covers 16 West Texas Counties including Hale Floyd Crosby Terry Lynn Garza Kent Jones Stonewall Fisher Borden Howard Glasscock Sterling Reagan and Irion.
