Murphy said “When I asked for votes during 2006 I promised to go to Austin to work on the peoples business. I believe we applied ourselves to working on the major issues facing Texas including immigration taxes public safety and transportation. In the 140 days of the Legislative Session I believe we made real progress.
This included strengthening laws regarding voter registration and providing $100 million for increased border security cutting local school property taxes by 25 increasing criminal penalties for repeat offenders reigning in the runaway Trans Texas Corridor and changing laws to empower local officials in deciding how toll roads should be used.”
“We made positive changes and improvements yet there were some disappointments like the top 10 rule and photo ID for voting and there is more work to be done. I learned a lot this session and was pleased to have leadership roles within my legislative class within the membership and in our Republican Caucus.”
“I plan to build upon these successes to do an even better job in my next term and plan to do an even better job in my next term. While the March ’08 primary is months away and the November ’08 election even further I want you to be assured that my team is preparing early.” Murphy concluded.
