Joe Straus Gains Texas Alliance for Life Endorsement

Speaker Straus is well deserving of the support of pro-life voters.

width=89Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas - Under his leadership as Speaker the Texas Legislature passed more pro-life legislation than in any other Session in the history of Texas. Joe Straus has articulated the same pro-life position on width=162abortion as President Ronald Reagan and has acted on that position said conservative statewide leader Joe Pojman Ph.D. Executive Director for Texas Alliance for Life while endorsing Straus for re-election in House District 121.   It is our view that Speaker Straus is well deserving of the support of pro-life voters in House District 121 Pojman said. Texas Alliance for Lifes President Davida Stike said
Speaker Straus surpassed all of our expectations. His appointment of pro-life leaders to key committees resulted in strong pro-life legislation being signed into law. We believe his record is worthy of our support. It is incumbent on the pro-life movement to be loyal to those elected officials who have been loyal to mothers and their unborn babies and that certainly describes Speaker Straus.
Having lobbied for pro-life bills in the Capitol for 24 years I know that tough often controversial bills do not pass unless the Speaker provides leadership and appoints the right members to lead the right committees added Pojman. The most recent year is no different and an unprecedented number of substantial pro-life measures were passed in the regular and special sessions. Those pro-life measures cited by the group include:
  • The Sonogram Bill House Bill 15 including the provision to require the physician who will perform the abortion to meet with a width=130woman considering abortion in a private and confidential setting at least 24 hours before the abortion can begin to provide informed consent.
  • The Choose Life license plate Senate Bill 257 to create a specialty license plate to promote infant adoption.
  • De-funding Planned Parenthood through Senate Bill 7 which excludes abortion providers and their affiliates from the Medicaid Womens Health Program and through prioritizing family planning grants in House Bill 1 the Appropriations Act.
  • Banning county tax dollars for elective abortions also in Senate Bill 7.
  • Continued funding for adult not embryonic stem cell treatments in House Bill 1.
  • Continued funding for charitable agencies that offer compassionate alternatives to abortion in House Bill 1.
