The cap-and-trade legislation is going through mark up in the U.S. Senate this week. There is no amount of marking up they can do to improve it because it is built on the weak notion that more government intervention and more of our hard-earned money is the solution! There are many negative consequences to this legislation and it must be stopped!

As a Railroad Commissioner I have frequently voiced my opposition to the Washington-centric radical energy and environmental policy. The cap-and-trade legislation is a $2 trillion tax increase on the American people a direct assault on Texas businesses that supply much of the energy and refined products on which the rest of the country depends.
We need to make America more energy secure. But the cap-and-trade bill will make us even more dependent on foreign energy and it will limit economic opportunity for millions of Americans. It will result in lost jobs and diminished security for our nation. Americans should expect nothing less than the truth however inconvenient…and the truth is that cap-and-trade has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with more Washington control and tax revenues to feed the federal governments runaway spending.
We need a coherent U.S. Energy Policy that focuses on domestic production encourages renewable energy where in makes fiscal sense and lets the consumers the tax-payers not politicians trying to sell books determine the winners and losers in the energy debate.
