
AUSTIN State Representative Phil King (R-Weatherford) will join a group of other state legislators research business and taxpayer organizations at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday April 1st to discuss Kings HJR 97 and HB 3176.
The property tax perpetuates a cycle of school finance litigation leads to untenably high tax bills for home and business owners and necessitates a Robin Hood system of redistribution between school districts. The state must begin a long-term debate on how to better meet its constitutional obligation to fully fund public schools.
The group will discuss HJR 97 and HB 3176 which will eliminate the school district Maintenance and Operations property tax by 2014 and how the legislature can find a more fair funding source for public schools.
