Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas Competitive Power Advocates (TCPA) joined lawmakers regulators and other market stakeholders at a Texas House of Representatives State Affairs hearing today to examine the adequacy of electricity supply in the Texas electric market.
Participants discussed the challenges currently facing the market as well as possible solutions to maintain a reliable electricity supply for Texans. TCPA president Barbara Clemenhagen expressed similar concerns on the current state of the market but assured lawmakers progress is underway.
The Texas electric market is currently facing resource adequacy issues driven by inadequate wholesale pricing signals coupled with challenging capital markets and lack of clarity regarding federal environmental regulations" said Clemenhagen. Our members are working tirelessly with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and other stakeholders to identify and expeditiously implement market-based solutions that will maintain a successful and reliable electric market for Texans."
Clemenhagen stated that TCPA members share Chairman Byron Cooks <http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/member-page/?district=8> goal to resolve this issue through regulatory rather than legislative changes. TCPA members support market-based policies that allow for wholesale prices to accurately reflect market supply and demand especially during times of limited supply in order to encourage investment in new and existing generation.
TCPA members are confident that solutions will be found and implemented to ensure adequate electricity generation is available to meet future demand and maintain the long-term reliability of the market" said Clemenhagen.
