As a member of the Texas House of Representatives and a practicing attorney I believe it is imperative that lawmakers avoid ethical conflicts by putting the public interest ahead of private interests" said Rep. Jason Villalba (HD-114) of Dallas. I strongly support the substantive ethics proposals that Greg Abbott has proposed and will work diligently to get them passed including ending the practice of lawmakers profiting from public debt."
As a former judge and a serving state representative I feel that all Texas senators and representatives should avoid any potential conflict of interest between their representation in the legislature and their personal representation of other governmental entities in financial matters" Rep. Tryon Lewis (HD-81) of Odessa said. For that reason I feel it would be beneficial to amend the Government Code to prohibit legislators from personally serving as bond counsel for public entities for a fee."
