Legislators to Spotlight Womens Health Issues

width=65width=65width=64(AUSTIN TX)--  On Thursday March 26th 2009 at 9am Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) and members of the House Womens Health Caucus will hold a press conference in the Lt. Governors Press Room highlighting legislation filed this session aimed at improving womens health and welfare. These bills help empower women to make their health a top priority. Many of these bills will encourage women to take simple steps for longer healthier and happier lives. The state should help Texas women lead healthy lives by increasing outreach education and access to needed services in order to improve womens physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases. Proposed legislation includes improving access to the Womens Health Program requiring HIV testing for pregnant women and newborns and decreasing high risk pregnancies.
