LIBRE: Hispanic Unemployment Rate Too High at 6.9

Hispanic all Americans losing faith in the future DanielWASHINGTON D.C. (Texas Insider Report) Median annual income for Hispanic households has fallen by more than $2000 since 2009 and today more than 1.2 million Hispanics find themselves trapped in part-time work. Wages are not improving and millions are worse off than they were just a few years ago said Daniel Garza (left) Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative as the Department of Labor issued its LIBREmonthly employment report for August. At 6.9 the Latino unemployment rate is significantly higher than the 5.9 national average.   Additionally the labor participation rate has fallen - and now sits at its lowest level since 1978.
For Hispanics especially unemployment rates remain above the national average and businesses are cutting employee hours - or all too often closing down shop because of Washingtons burdensome regulations. The American Dream seems so unattainable to so many. Whats worse it may be unattainable to the next generation if we dont Danieldo something now Garza said.
The economy remains extremely fragile - despite massive federal spending and the Federal Reserves easy money policy. Real growth will come when Washington gets out of the way and allows private sector entrepreneurs to grow and lead. The American people understand that limiting taxes and reining in excess regulation will allow American workers and small businesses to start earning and investing for a better future said Garza. A new survey by Pew Research shows that the United States ranks near the top of nations based on peoples belief that they control their success in life. When residents of 44 countries were asked whether hard work and education were important to get ahead:
  1. 73 of Americans said hard work is very important - putting the U.S. in 2nd place among all nations.
  2. 62 said the same of education - greater than the median.
  3. 65 of Americans say the next generation will be worse off financially than their parents - worse than all but 5 other nations surveyed.

While 70 of Americans support the free market 14 other countries scored higher - including China Vietnam India Malaysia Kenya Germany and South Korea. The promise of America - the promise that has attracted millions of immigrants for hundreds of years - is that with hard work and discipline anyone can succeed here said Garza The LIBRE Initiatives Executive Director. Each generation has passed on to the next a country in better shape and better prepared to succeed. Now people see the promise of building their own American Dream in jeopardy. While states like Texas and North Dakota embrace a different path than Washington - and are doing better - the nation as a whole is losing faith losing faith that Americas private sector is as powerful today as it once was. LIBREWashington needs to recognize that this is a serious and growing problem and that it will take a change in course to fix it said Garza. The LIBRE Initiative recently announced it will continue from now through the end of October its Saturday National Days of Action 2014 at which time LIBRE volunteers go door to door and make phone calls to spread the message of economic freedom. They will also be registering the policy concerns of the Latino community. So far this year LIBREs team of activists has made hundreds of thousands of phone calls and knocked on tens of thousands of doors.
The president promised to tackle immigration reform revive the economy and expand health care choice while reducing costs. Instead - as we see with the current debate over when to issue an executive order on immigration - the presidents priority is political. DanielThe Latino community is disappointed and disillusioned. The key reason for this disappointment is that they do not believe they have been dealt with fairly but instead have been used for political ends said Garza.
