To Pro-Abortion Foes: “We’re Protecting Women’s Health, and Babies.”
“We’re here today because life is precious. We’re here today because we want to help protect women’s health and babies.
“And I’ve got a message for all those people out there that don’t agree with us – and it may surprise you – it’s ‘we love you.’ That’s right, we love you because as a Christian, as Christians, we love you just as much as we love that unborn baby.
“And as an American, I respect your 1st Amendment Rights to free speech. As a Texan, I respect your toughness. But as a leader, we’re going to pass this bill.”
“At the end of the day, our state is a very pro-life state. Over the years, I’ve helped pass parental consent, making it a crime to harm an unborn baby, the sonogram bill, a woman’s right to know. And this bill is broken into two parts: … Read More from Lt. Governor David Dewhurst
- “First, we’ve made a decision – with 34 states having an earlier deadline than we have in Texas for abortion – we think 5 months is the appropriate time for the deadline on abortion.
- “Second, improve health care for women … Why in the world would we regulate our clinics differently if we’re taking our child to have their tonsils removed, or someone wants cataract surgery, versus having an abortion? We want safe facilities,” said the Lt. Governor.
“People of good conscience should be deeply concerned that our opponents are willing to undermine democracy to protect a right they cherish, seemingly above all others: the right to terminate a pregnancy,” Dewhurst said.
“In light of the tragic revelations in the trial of Philadelphia’s Kermit Gosnell, these new restrictions on the abortion industry in Texas will save innocent lives and better protect the health of women who make the choice to terminate a pregnancy.
“It breaks my heart to think of even one innocent life ended by abortion, but until the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, we must continue working to protect the sanctity of life,” said Dewhurst.
“As a believer in the sanctity of life, I care deeply about the pre-born and their mothers. The shouting crowd would have you believe those two priorities are incompatible. To me, they are inseparably linked.”
“I’ve always been a strong protector of women’s health and the rights of the pre-born. The will of the people of Texas is not going to be thwarted by Obama-style mob tactics. We can’t permit that in the state of Texas,” said Dewhurst.
