Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas — Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst today announced the following appointments to the Sunset Advisory Commission:
- Senator Jane Nelson, Chair Senate District 12
- Senator Charles Schwertner Senate District 5
- Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa Senate District 20
“The Sunset Commission is an essential part of our state’s commitment to efficiency and accountability, ” Dewhurst said. “I appreciate each of these leaders’ willingness to take part in the ongoing review of state agencies to ensure they’re providing the best possible service to Texas taxpayers. It’s a demanding role, but I’m confident they will make state government better in the process.”
The Sunset Advisory Commission was created by the Texas Legislature in 1977 and is made up of 12 members. Its purpose is to review the operation and efficiency of more than 150 state agencies, with each agency typically subject to Sunset review every 12 years.
