Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN TX Today Lt. Governor David Dewhurst appointed Hugh C. Akin to the Texas Ethics Commission. His appointment will expire on November 19 2013.
Hugh Akin is the Executive Director of the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation a private charitable foundation dedicated to encouraging the study teaching and research into the science and art of self-government. Mr. Akin has more than 30 years of professional experience in public affairs and public relations. He is a veteran of the United States Army and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University.
The Texas Ethics Commission is responsible for administering and enforcing laws including those concerning financial disclosure conflict of interest and political contributions. The Commission is comprised of eight commissioners who each serve four-year terms. Four of the commissioners are appointed by the Governor two are appointed by the Lt. Governor and two are appointed by the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
