Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas — Today, Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst released the following statement regarding the Department of Justice lawsuit:
“There is no end to the tricks the Obama administration will play to undermine Texas. The assertions of their case are actually a prime example of the sort of discriminatory behavior they purport to oppose. I hope the judiciary acts swiftly in dismissing this case and casting a vote of confidence in our state’s proven commitment to fair, equal and accurate elections.”
Statement of Sen. Ken Paxton on Obama Justice Department Lawsuit Against Texas Voter ID Law:
“Today, Texans have a message for Eric Holder and the Obama Justice Department: Texans can govern Texas! This politically-motivated lawsuit is an insult to the state sovereignty of Texas. Our elected officials, supported strongly by Texas citizens, have every right to preserve the integrity of our elections without the heavy hand of Washington intervening in our affairs. I strongly support Voter ID and stand with Attorney General Greg Abbott and all Texas conservatives in opposing this colossal waste of our federal taxpayer dollars.”
