TWC $675370 Job-Training Grant

AUSTIN A manufacturing consortium representing four employers has partnered with Grayson County College to provide job training using a $675370 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

The grant will be used to custom train workers for 404 upgraded jobs with GlobiTech Inc. Fisher Controls International Kwikset Corp. and Douglass Distributing Ltd. Upon completion of training workers will fill positions such as assemblers cleanroom operators machine operators production leads and other manufacturing support positions and will earn an average hourly wage of $19.65.

In Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 Skills Development Fund grants created or upgraded 19516 jobs which paid an average hourly wage of $24.44. These grants assisted 170 Texas employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature appropriated $90 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2010-11 biennium.
