Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. When the President flies to The Vineyard today hell be taking plenty of unwanted baggage: tanking approval ratings massive unemployment a turbulent economy and $14.6 trillion in federal debt. There is no doubt that the President wants to put some distance between him and his three-day bus tour in which he tried deflect responsibility for the countrys problems.
It was a run of bad luck he told Iowans. Blame Washington he said as if hed never set foot in the place. But voters werent buying it. Even in Illinois where Obama spent most of his political career the President got tough questions from people who said they were fearful about their future frustrated by the paralyzed job market and fed up with the culture in D.C..
And if the listening tour wasnt tone deaf enough the President stepped onto Marine One this morning for a $50000-per-week vacation promising a new stimulus package upon his return. Come September the White House confirms the President will roll out yet another tax-and-spend plan that he swears will lead to long-term savings. (Sort of like the time he promised his health care law would control costs?)
This time around however even his base thinks it will be a struggle to get voters on board. And if Americans were skeptical about the stimulus before theyre downright cynical now. Only 26 of Americans agree with how the White House is handling the economy.
It wont be easy the Washington Post says because its nonsensical. Voters inherently understand that promises of cuts down the road coupled

with immediate spending sprees are precisely how we got to this point.
Like the two stimulus bills before it this proposal would push for more construction projects and state bailouts as well as changes to the federal payroll tax mortgage relief and yes new taxes.
As usual the President will push for a stimulus now in exchange for deficit reduction later. Fox News calls it steroidal version of a J. Wellington Wimpy--I would gladly give you debt reduction Tuesday for new spending today.
The White House says Americans can set their DVRs for a major speech on the plan this September 6th.
Instead people should just reread the transcripts from the Presidents January 2009 and 2010 speeches because like a bad sequel Im sure Stimulus 3 will be short on substance and leave you hanging in the end.
