Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. This week the president sent a request to Congress to authorize the U.S. to
use military force against ISIS. While Im glad the administration has finally made this request I am concerned the presidents proposal
does not reflect the truth on the ground. The reality is that ISIS is a brutal terrorist army that does not
respect timelines or boundaries.
The presidents proposal will weaken the U.S. ability to defeat ISIS by limiting not expanding our ability to rollback and destroy the violent Islamist extremists that threaten our nation. I will not give consent to a measure that ties the hands of our military commanders or takes options off the table.
The House will hold a number of hearings and I look forward to fully debating the presidents proposal.
I spoke about the threat ISIS poses on CBS Face the Nation and CNNs The Lead with Jake Tapper and discussed the presidents request on Fox News Hannity.
I also had the opportunity to give a major address to the American Enterprise Institute in which I laid out my global plan to defeat Islamist Terrorism. You can watch the speech below.

I chaired a hearing of the Homeland Security Committee on Countering Violent Islamist Extremism: The Urgent Threat of Foreign Fighters and Homegrown Terror."
The hearing explored the current and evolving dual terror threats to the homeland - foreign fighters who have gone to join extremist groups overseas and homegrown violent Islamist extremism.

On Thursday I reintroduced the
Andrea Sloan Compassionate Use Reform and Enhancement (CURE) Act which would make important reforms to the Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) expanded access (compassionate use) process by ensuring seriously ill patients have the right to know the compassionate use policies of pharmaceutical companies.
The Andrea Sloan CURE Act will give patients and doctors up front information about how to access experimental treatments and provide drug companies more certainty about the compassionate use program.
I was pleased to see new information this week that shows growing support for selling Texas crude oil around the world. Recent feedback from my constituents demonstrates that the American people increasingly understand the benefits of trading crude oil freely in spite of deliberate attempts by some to manipulate the facts and spread misinformation.
I will continue to work on educating the American people about the extraordinary economic and geopolitical benefits of
lifting the antiquated ban on crude oil exports.
