San Antonio Texas - Conservative State Board of Education Member Ken Mercer today called on his challenger in the March Republican Primary to debate his definition of Conservative.
Mercer opened: I am blessed with the early endorsement of 165 District and Statewide Conservative leaders. Without any hesitation they believe I am the only Conservative in this race.
However Mercers March Primary opponent lawyer-lobbyist Tim Tuggey is telling Republican groups in the twelve counties of the district that he is a Conservative specifically a 21st Century Conservative.
Mr. Tuggey must have a different definition of Conservative.
Texas voters often ask of candidates Do your actions match your words? The online reports of both the Texas and Federal Election Commissions (ending July 1 2009) describe Tuggeys actions. Do these actions match his words?
The Commissions list three categories for campaign contribution -- PACS Organizations and Individual/Personal checks. According to the Commissions during the week of June 26 the final week of the most current reporting period:
- June 26 2009: Tim Tuggey wrote a personal check of $2400 to liberal Democrat Congressman Chet Edwards. Edwards is in a U.S. House seat listed as a top target for Republicans in 2010.
- June 29 2009: Tim Tuggey wrote two $500 personal checks (total of $1000) to Democrat State Senator Kirk Watson of Austin a liberal Travis County Senator. In fact isnt Watson usually scored as the most liberal Senator in Texas?
- June 30 2009: Tim Tuggey wrote a personal check of $1500 to the Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee. This is the same DSCC that gave us Liberal Democrat Senators Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton.

Concluded Mercer: Tim Tuggey the self described lawyer-lobbyist is supported by the education political lobby. Two months before running as a Conservative he contributed heavily to those who oppose everything Republican.
Conservative Republicans agree that a lawyer-lobbyist should never run for public office. In the 2010 debates Mercer said he will call on Mr. Tuggey (and his supporters) to share and debate his bizarre definition of Conservative.
