As Americans we are fortunate to live in a nation where we have the ability to vote start a family buy a home found a small business or any one of the endeavors we choose. This is the freedom to pursue the American Dream. Our nations military should not become a casualty of Washingtons budget fights.
While this freedom is granted in our Constitution it is guaranteed by the men and women of our armed forces that defend these freedoms we enjoy as Americans. Every day these brave men and women put their lives on the line so that we can live ours.
One of the most important duties the federal government has is to ensure that our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to defend our nation. To live up to this responsibility the House of Representatives recently passed the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012 (H.R. 5652).
This legislation which I proudly supported is needed to prevent an automatic cut to our nations military budget that will occur in 2013 because of the failure of the Super Committee" to reach a deal. Should this automatic spending cut actually happen the consequences would be devastating.
As the Congressman for the 23rd District of Texas which is home to many men and women who have chosen to serve their nation in uniform I will continue fighting to provide all the resources they need to carry out the job of defending our nation and our freedoms.
