width=72Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. In the down market there is one group whos still hiring: voters. And during Tuesdays primaries 1000s headed to the polls to narrow down their candidates. In Missouri where Senator Claire McCaskill (D) is fighting for her political life Democrats finally learned who their opponent would be in one of the most important contests this fall. After a tight three-way race conservative Rep. Todd Akin (R) edged out the field for a chance to take on Sen. McCaskill in the general election. If he succeeds Republicans would be one step closer to the four seats they need for Senate control and we would add another true conservative to the Senate. And if the latest polling is any indication Missouri voters would prefer just about any conservative to their incumbent. In last weeks survey Sen. McCaskill trailed all three challengers by anywhere from five to nine percent. Akin for six terms has been a rock for the width=151pro-family movement. Fortunately for Missourians the good news didnt stop there. The state also made headlines for passing an amendment aimed at protecting religious freedom with 83 of the vote. Critics had slammed the bill as unnecessary--but given the growing hostility toward any displays of faith voters were right to be proactive. The measure affirms an individuals right to pray in public and even touches on conscience rights. No student the amendment states shall be compelled to perform or participate in academic assignments or educational presentations that violate his or her religious beliefs. The positive trends continued in Kansas where social and Tea Party conservatives joined forces to beat back a crowd of Establishment Republicans. Despite a big advantage in fundraising no amount of money could save the moderate incumbents many of whom had been standing in the way of conservative progress since Gov. Sam Brownback (R) took office. Voters managed to sweep out seven centrists from the state senate--not counting the biggest target of all: state senate president (and open Brownback critic) Steve Morris (R) who was ousted after 20 years in the Kansas legislature. width=73Together voters paved the way for a powerful conservative majority to take charge--just in time to cut spending lower taxes and build on the Governors pro-life agenda. With Ted Cruzs win in Texas last week all signs point to an interesting fall. Lets hope conservatives are just getting warmed up!
